Mean curvature flow with obstacles

چکیده
We consider the evolution of fronts by mean curvature in the presence of obstacles. We construct a weak solution to the flow by means of a variational method, corresponding to an implicit time-discretization scheme. Assuming the regularity of the obstacles, in the two-dimensional case we show existence and uniqueness of a regular solution before the onset of singularities. Finally, we discuss an application of this result to the positive mean curvature flow. MSC. 35R37 35R45 49J40 49Q20 53A10

Mean curvature flow with obstacles: existence, uniqueness and regularity of solutions
We show short time existence and uniqueness of C solutions to the mean curvature flow with obstacles, when the obstacles are of class C. If the initial interface is a periodic graph we show long time existence of the evolution and convergence to a minimal constrained hypersurface.
متن کاملWeak Solutions to Mean Curvature Flow Respecting Obstacles I: the Graphical Case
We consider the problem of evolving hypersurfaces by mean curvature flow in the presence of obstacles, that is domains which the flow is not allowed to enter. In this paper, we treat the case of complete graphs and explain how the approach of M. Sáez and the second author [13] yields a global weak solution to the original problem for general initial data and onesided obstacles.

where H(x, t) is the mean curvature vector of Ft(M) and Ft(x) = F (x, t). We call F : M × [0, T ) → F(c) the mean curvature flow with initial value F . The mean curvature flow was proposed by Mullins [17] to describe the formation of grain boundaries in annealing metals. In [3], Brakke introduced the motion of a submanifold by its mean curvature in arbitrary codimension and constructed a genera...
متن کاملThe Mean Curvature Flow Smoothes Lipschitz Submanifolds
The mean curvature flow is the gradient flow of volume functionals on the space of submanifolds. We prove a fundamental regularity result of mean curvature flow in this paper: a Lipschitz submanifold with small local Lipschitz norm becomes smooth instantly along the mean curvature flow. This generalizes the regularity theorem of Ecker and Huisken for Lipschitz hypersurfaces. In particular, any ...
